Welcome to third grade! My name is Mrs. Walling and I am your child's third grade teacher this year. I am looking forward to a year filled with exciting learning experiences. My goal is to make a positive growing experience by working as a team, teacher-child-parent. Communication, consistency, and positive reinforcement will be the keys to success for your child.
Your child's education is of the utmost importance to me. For that reason, there will be homework Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and sometimes Friday. The purpose of homework is to provide extra practice for the skills already taught in class. Completion of homework is essential for evaluation of skill mastery. Please make sure your child brings their homework in their yellow folder to school each day! In addition, they need to read 15-20 minutes per day and keep track of reading on their Home Reading Log, located in the back of pocket of their yellow homework folder. Please keep this paper in this back pocket.
Homework is your child's responsibility. Please help them develop good study habits and a responsible attitude by providing a set time, quiet place, and some assistance-as needed. Completing homework can increase your child's achievement, while teaching good study habits. Please monitor their homework assignments to see they are done neatly and turned in on time. Please check my classroom website weekly to get a copy of spelling words and to see classroom news. There is a reading requirement of FOUR Accelerated Reading points each month for a reading grade. Look for the A/R reports coming home, after your child completes and tests on each book.
The first week of school, your child received a Bellview Agenda Planner. Homework is posted in the classroom daily to be copied each day by your child from the Smartboard. Please sign your child's planner every day. (They get a DOJO point for a signed planner and/or Reading Log.
Classroom Dojo will be used to reward good behavior and to take away points when there needs to be a consequence. Positive behavior points earned for top point winners get weekly prizes in class, and a school-wide reward every marking period. In order to attend, behavior must be consistent earning positive Dojo points daily.
First offense: Warning
Second Warning: Time Out plan written by student and signed by parent. This needs to be returned the next school day.
Third warning: (For same offense - after Time Out plan returned.) Phone call home and
a scheduled conference.
In this letter, I have provided some important information that will help your child be successful in the third grade. I have discussed this information with your child, but would also appreciate it if you would review it with him/her at home.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child, please feel free to contact me by writing a note, calling the school office at #586-533-3100, or emailing me at: [email protected]
Thank you in advance for your cooperation. It is only with students, parents, and teachers working together that we can provide your child with the best possible education. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Walling
